New Year - New Mediums:

With the arrival of 2021, I am growing as a artist and now going to be offering Water Soluble Oil. I am using Royal Talons' - Cobra Water Soluble Oil paints and supplies. They are using a new binder & emulsifier in the oil paint that allows the brushes to be cleaned up with just soap and water.

Both Oil paint and water color paints are made from ground minerals called pigments. The difference has always been that oil paints were originally mixed with linseed oil and watercolor with gum arabic. The water soluble paints are my preference as there are no fumes, no toxicity issues. YAY! They will both be sealed with different UV archival varnish products. The oil paints take very long to fully dry - depending on thickness of the paint up to one year!

My painting are on high quality acid free paper. I have historically used Arches 140 lb paper. I have just discovered Kilimanjaro 300 lb paper and I am in heaven! My oil paintings will also be on that paper, primed with Acrylic Gesso for mixed media and water soluble oil. They can then be mounted just as shown at the bottom of this page.

There will also be other surfaces used such as primed mdf boards or plywood. I will also be using the prefab canvas panels and canvas. For reasons of storage the paper and boards will be my preference.

Set a time to come by. Take a lesson or two and explore the world of art! I would love to share my Adventure with you!

Textured Watercolor Paintings - My invention!
I want to share with you a new technique I developed while "playing" in my studio.

I rather enjoy the visual interest of palette knife work on oil paintings. I decided to create texture in my watercolor paintings using Daniel Smith Watercolor Ground.

Watercolor Ground is a product that is usually used to coat a canvas or other surface to accept watercolor paint. So I bought a set of palette knives and got to work. Sketch the painting. Add watercolor ground and allow it to dry overnight (or longer as needed.) Then painted it.

I even did a demo on it for Rio Bravo Watercolor Society back in September. My dear friend Dorian was very persuasive.

I really like the effect and I think you will too. I will not use it all of the time; but it is a fun and interesting "game to play" while staying in my favorite medium - Watercolor.

Just as all of my paintings - it is UV Archival Krylon Varnish Sealed. Then just pop in a frame.

New Framing

This is one of the new framing options. This painting is bonded to the canvas and sealed with UV Archival Krylon Varnish. The canvas can be shallow like this one or we can use a thicker / deeper one.

Standard Frame

Because I hate the glare of glass or plexi glass
you will find all of my framed paintings handled this way. The painting is bonded to an acid free surface
and sprayed with UV Archival Krylon Varnish.
No mat, no glass, no glare. OH my!
I think you will love it too.

(and if you don't like the frame, buy it NAKED!)
Painting's in their new homes!

Thank you all for allowing me to share! These are a few of my paintings with their new owners. These are really lovely in their new homes.
